In true 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards fashion, some of the biggest names told hilarious tales — getting the party started with the “I’m an Actor” Monologue.
The SAG Awards kicked off on Saturday with its classic opener, in which some of the night’s nominees introduced themselves via heartfelt or hilarious anecdotes about their career and the industry, all culminating with “…and I’m an actor.”
Barbie‘s Michael Cera was the first to deliver his portion of the monologue with a tale about getting his SAG card as a young 13-year-old actor. In his hilarious bit, Cera joked about the way the adults treated him as a peer and how he didn’t get to keep his earnings. Cera said that he couldn’t wait to reconnect with some of the stars and “let them know that we’ve met before.”
Colman Domingo introduced himself as an actor, who has spoken in many languages and even played the banjo, marched on Washington, and even voiced Batman. Before signing off, the Rustin star made a hilarious call back to Candyman — warning audience not to say his name five times.
Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham stunned in a red gown as she reflected on the moment that a mouse in her dress got the best of her.
And finally, the host of the evening, Idris Elba dished about how his “English charm” landed him inside of Robert De Niro’s New York City office. He thought he had the chance to impress the star, however, that dream was crushed as he was ushered out. But things didn’t turn out completely sour, as he found himself … and actor.. on the stage hosting the 30th annual ceremony.
The star-studded evening is set to feature plenty of famous actors taking the stage to present awards to their peers, including Jennifer Aniston, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, Erika Alexander, Danielle Brooks, Sterling K. Brown, Michael Cera, Jessica Chastain, Robert Downey Jr., Fran Drescher, Billie Eilish, America Ferrera, Brendan Fraser, Taraji P. Henson, Troy Kotsur, Greta Lee, Melissa McCarthy, Cillian Murphy, Glen Powell, Issa Rae, Storm Reid, Margot Robbie, Tracee Ellis Ross, Alexander Skarsgård, Omar Sy, Naomi Watts, Jeffrey Wright and more.
