For travelers who
are still eyeing spring getaways, Southwest
Airlines has launched a tempting new promotion, offering select flights
with discounts of up to 30 percent across its network.
The “Splash Sale” is
valid for booking until Thursday, February 29, at 11:59 p.m. PT, is applicable
for travel within the continental United
States between March 19 and May 22, 2024.
To take advantage of
these discounts, travelers will need to type promo code SPLASH in the
“Promo Code” box when doing their flight searches on Southwest’s
website or mobile app.
The maximum
discount offered outside of California is 30 percent off the base fare, before
any government taxes and fees. Here’s how the discounts are structured based on
the days of the week:
- 30 percent off for Tuesday and
Wednesday travel - 25 percent off for Monday, Thursday,
Friday, and Saturday travel - 20 percent off for Sunday travel
Certain blackout
dates from March 23 to 24, March 30 to 31, and April 6 to 7 apply, along with
blackout routes. All intra-California routes, and travel to and from Orange
County (SNA) are excluded from the promotion. Additionally, this sale only
applies to continental U.S. routes, meaning Caribbean or Hawaii travel won’t be
discounted.
The Splash Sale discounts
also extend to reward travel, offering an excellent opportunity for customers to
redeem their Southwest Rapid Rewards points for reduced fares. For example, Travel
+ Leisure discovered a Tuesday flight from Phoenix to Nashville that’s
eligible for this promotion, discounted from 9,991 points to just 6,993 points.
Southwest devotees
can also continue to benefit from the airline’s Companion Pass offer through
March 11. New Southwest Chase credit card applicants qualify for the
buy-one-get-one flight pass when they spend $4,000 within the first three
months of opening their account.
Once travelers
secure the pass, they can select one companion to fly alongside them for only
the cost of taxes and fees, which amounts to a mere $5.60 on domestic travel.
